10 Great Racetracks as Seen From Space - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured in Wired Article

Racetracks pretty much look the same from the grandstands or on television — a vast expanse of asphalt on which drivers do battle. Seen from space, though, you can appreciate their form and the skill it requires to drive them at the limit...Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indiana. Sure, it's essentially four left turns. And it is home to the Indianapolis 500. But if you think that's all it is, you are sadly mistaken. It is the stage upon which some of racing's greatest dramas have been played out. It is where triumph and tragedy transpire in milliseconds. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is rare in American motorsports, for it is history. Built in 1909 as a testing facility for auto manufacturers, The Brickyard has been the home to more historic races than possibly any other single track in the world. That's the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course on the right, with 14 holes adjacent to the backstretch and four inside the "oval." Image: GeoEye

Satellite Imagery Is the Newest Arsenal Used in the Fight Against Cancer - GeoEye Case Study

Satellite imagery has continued to evolve as a technology over the past 50 years. No longer simply for governmental purposes, satellites are impacting areas far beyond their expected reach, eager to transform this archaic perception. This advancing technology has affected industries which span the business spectrum, including spill over to multiple consumer and even seemingly unrelated industries, such as the medical industry...Remote sensing, coupled with data processing procedures, has been found effective in detecting and decrypting data concerning natural resources that offer an added, health-related benefit. This is the case for the Canadian yew tree (Taxus Canadensis). The Yew tree is the main source of Paclitaxal, a chemical substance that, when processed, can be used to treat cancer. The lens behind the project is GeoEye's IKONOS Earth imaging satellite.

GeoEye Featured Imagery in Google Earth - June 2010 Imagery Update

Since the launch of the GeoEye-1 satellite in 2008, Google has added gigabytes of high-resolution GeoEye-1 and IKONOS imagery to Google Earth and Google Maps, such as a historic scene from the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, views of the pyramids in Egypt, and images showing urban expansion in China. To highlight other broadly-interesting GeoEye-1 images, Google has a 'GeoEye Featured Imagery' layer in Google Earth. Included within this layer are Featured Imagery placemarks, including a thumbnail of the image, a link to view the image in full-resolution, and a wealth of information about the scene, including resolution, collection date, and a narrative about the location...

This month's featured images are:

Arches National Park, Utah

Bern, Switzerland

Casablanca, Morocco

Mt. Ararat, Turkey

Vienna, Austria

Satellites Focus on World Cup - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured on MSNBC : Cosmic Log

You'll find GeoEye's set, based on observations from the GeoEye-1 and Ikonos satellites, at the company's website. We've also adapted five of the images in a slideshow that uses Microsoft's HD View zoom feature. Both of GeoEye's satellites took pictures from an altitude of 423 miles as they zoomed over Africa at 4 miles a second in a pole-to-pole orbit. GeoEye-1's half-meter resolution is twice as sharp than Ikonos' 1-meter-per-pixel resolution. Can you tell the difference?

Interesting GeoEye Case Study: Measuring the Effects of Displacement in Northern Uganda

Eric Green and partner AVSI-Gulu have been using imagery awarded by the GeoEye Foundation to create a representative sampling of Uganda peoples displaced by the 20-year conflict between the Government of Uganda and Lord's Resistance Army. The purpose of Green's research is to map the transition process as the displaced citizens begin to filter back into Northern Uganda and to monitor the societal implications of the displacement and relocation...

...In support of this research, I recently received 400 sq km of 1-m IKONOS satellite imagery from the GeoEye Foundation. This generous award has allowed me to pursue an alternate sampling strategy that will help me overcome some of the challenges of recruiting a representative sample of Opit IDP camp residents

E3 10: Have Some New H.A.W.X. 2 Screens and Details - GeoEye Satellite Photos

Ubisoft may not have shown off Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 during their press conference, but they were kind enough to give us some new screenshots and a little bit of information on the game. Like the last screens we got, most of these are just of various planes. There are few shots, however, of what appear to be tactical airstrikes, both at night and during the day. If the terrain looks surprisingly realistic, it's because Ubisoft states they're using actual satellite high-resolution data from GeoEye, a satellite imagery service.
