Satellite Imagery Products - GeoEye Imagery Collection Showcased

Geo - The foundation of the GeoEye imagery product line, the Geo, is a radiometrically corrected map oriented image suitable for a wide range of uses. In addition to being suitable for visualization and monitoring applications, the Geo is shipped with the sensor camera model in rational polynomial coefficient (RPC) format. This camera model maps the respective ground coordinates to image product coordinates. Block adjustment, ortho-rectification, and other photogrammetric processing can be performed with the RPC camera model. This product, coupled with a digital elevation model (DEM), permits skilled users to make their own orthorectified products using standard commercial software and available data sets. Before and After: A Controversial Flood Plan Put to Use - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured on PBS

This 2011 flood, originally triggered by a series of storms depositing six times the normal rainfall, has proven to be the worst possible situation for which the plan was designed — "The Project Flood." To date, two of the three major floodways have been used. As the water surges toward the Gulf of Mexico, politicians and engineers are scrambling to shift its path to that of the least possible damage.


Google, in conjunction with the satellite imaging company GeoEye, captured and released these images of Cairo and a portion of the surrounding flooded farmlands...

Death Toll From Joplin Tornado Rises - GeoEye is Elevating Insight

The death toll in Joplin has risen to 154 people with the death of a man injured in last month's tornado...


In this May 24, 2011 satellite image provided by provided by GeoEye Satellite Imagery, the path of a tornado is shown in Joplin, Mo. The Missouri Department of Public Safety said the confirmed death toll of 134 includes 124 people who had been on the unaccounted-for list, seven people who were taken immediately to funeral homes after the storm, and three people who have since died in the hospital from their injuries. 'Day of Devastation' iPad App on Alabama Tornadoes is on iTunes - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured

The "Day of Devastation: A multimedia look at Alabama's deadly tornado outbreak" iPad app is now available for $1.99 on iTunes and in the App Store.


The app is a collection of first-hand accounts, survivor videos, satellite imagery and more than 180 photos from the hardest hit-counties, as well as audio and video from President Barack Obama. It was produced by The Birmingham News; its sister papers The Huntsville Times and the Press-Register; and al.com, the newspapers' website.

Joplin, MO. — Missouri officials say the death toll from the massive May 22 Joplin tornado has risen to 138 people...


In this May 24, 2011 satellite image provided by provided by GeoEye Satellite Imagery, the path of a tornado is shown in Joplin, Mo. The Missouri Department of Public Safety said the confirmed death toll of 134 includes 124 people who had been on the unaccounted-for list, seven people who were taken immediately to funeral homes after the storm, and three people who have since died in the hospital from their injuries. Joplin, MO. — Missouri officials say the death toll from the massive May 22 Joplin tornado has risen to 138 people.


The state Department of Public Safety announced the increase from 134 to 138 on Thursday after confirming that four more people died in hospitals of injuries suffered in deadliest single U.S. tornado since 1950.

Mississippi Floods: Images and Data - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured in Google Lat Long Blog

Emerging as one of the worst flooding events along the U.S. waterway in the past century, the Mississippi River floods of April and May 2011 have caused widespread destruction along the 2,300 mile river system. Historically high water levels from heavy rains and springtime snowmelt have provided no shortage of dramatic scenes -- levees breached, downtown areas completely submerged, spillways opened, and more.


The Google Crisis Response team has assembled a collection of flood data including satellite imagery for impacted cities along the river from GeoEye, flood extent and crest data forecasts from the US Army Corps of Engineers (kml) and NOAA’s National Weather Service (kml), and shelter locations from the American Red Cross (kml)...
