Natural disasters and industrial incidents are not in short supply these days. Both newspapers and the evening news are documenting tornados, volcanic ash, oil slicks and more. The image below, from GeoEye, shows the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico taken from their GeoEye-1 satellite. The images provide more than just an interesting picture. High quality imagery allows first responders to better prepare and coordinate response activities, whether it is tracking the tides to determine where the oil will first contact land or where to deploy collection/retention crews...
