This image shows the coral reef system of the Alacranes Reef, 65 miles due north of Progreso, a port town on the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is a large reef system, 17 miles long and 13 miles wide with five islands and atolls. In 1994, the UN decreed the reef a protected Reserve of the Biosphere. IKONOS .82-meter resolution collected 4 September 2008.
