Image - Satellite maps aid Haiti earthquake relief - Article Features GeoEye Satellite Photos

The computer-intensive raw images from UNOSAT are transferred to EGEE, where programs compress the satellite images for transmission over low-bandwidth connections, allowing users to access the latest maps from devices as simple as mobile phones — essential in areas where land-lines are down and infrastructure destroyed. The location of the debris is captured by the GeoEye-1 satellite and placed on top of the cities layout, generated by street maps from Google Earth. The maps are accurate down to a resolution of 50 cm...

Google Earth Highlights High-Resolution Imagery from the GeoEye-1 Satellite

However, for the ones that are available, Google has now created a dedicated layer in Google Earth to highlight some of the most interesting locations photographed by GeoEye-1, but which haven't yet been made available in either Maps or Earth.
"To highlight some of these broadly-interesting GeoEye-1 images before they can be fully integrated into Maps and Earth, we're excited to announce the new 'GeoEye Featured Imagery' layer in Google Earth. Included within this layer are 20-30 Featured Imagery placemarks, including a thumbnail of the image, a link to view the image in full-resolution, and a wealth of information about the scene, including resolution, collection date, and a narrative about the location," Pete Giencke, GIS data engineer, and Dylan Lorimer, strategic partner manager, wrote...

Even more imagery in Google Earth - GeoEye Satellite Imagery Featured in Google Lat Long Blog

Since the launch of GeoEye's GeoEye-1 satellite, we've added many gigabytes of high-resolution GeoEye-1 imagery to Google Earth and Google Maps, including a scene from the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, views of the pyramids in Egypt, and images showing urban expansion in China. While we're constantly adding such great imagery, what we've published to date represents only a subset of the available imagery from GeoEye-1, which is capable of collecting hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of imagery every day...

Our imagery over Haiti, for example, showed how many people went to sports stadiums and open areas," he told me. "Well, that's knowledge. Maybe that's where you ought to provide food and water first."

Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces – Review Roundup: Featuring GeoEye High Resolution Imagery

Nintendo World Report – 90. Innocent Aces isn’t going to stun anyone from a visual standpoint, but it is a competent effort. The landscape uses GeoEye images, as Project Aces is known for doing, to create landscapes captured from satellite images of the Earth’s surface. However, they decided to use a more colorful palette to complement the cartoon images of the source material, rather than the realistic terrain that the GeoEye system is known for. It is still great to fly over cities, deserts, forests, and oceans. The aircraft, while not highly detailed, are pleasing to the eye and there are plenty of them on screen at once. The game runs smoothly and properly conveys the speed of an aircraft in flight. Outside of missions, there are hand-drawn cinematics, created by the same team that produced The Sky Crawlers film. The character designs in these cutscenes are great, and the art is fantastic...

GeoEye-1 Satellite Service and Human Rights - Satellite Imagery

In the last year, Google joined forces with GeoEye–the world's largest space imaging corporation ( Wikipedia) to provide users with access to some of the most detailed images of the earth’s surface currently available. Though GeoEye's primary customers are United States defense and intelligence agencies, Google acquired exclusive online mapping use of images generated by the GeoEye-1–the company's flagship satellite–for their Google Maps and Google Earth applications (Wikipedia and loudoni, December 28, 2009).
