E3 2010: Tom Clancy's HAWX 2 Preview - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured in Article

From the few missions that I saw, the animations (mainly while still on the ground) need a lot of work. Same goes for the framerate which was very jittery when displaying a lot of ground from high above. Speaking of the earth below, it looks fantastic thanks to the same GeoEye technology that powered the first HAWX. Mountain ranges are very impressive and exhibit some cool depth and shadowing that clearly wouldn't be possible without the aid of GeoEye...

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 First Look Preview - Featuring GeoEye High Resolution Imagery

The terrain is once again stunningly detailed thanks to the game's GeoEye satellite imaging technology. Only now, the ground doesn't look quite as muddied and flat up close as it did in the first game, at least based on the few maps I saw. H.A.W.X. ran at a blistering pace, and from what I saw, H.A.W.X. 2 keeps this standard intact while inching the needle forward in key areas...

Learn More About High-Resolution Imagery - GeoEye 101 Site

Resolution Modes: GeoEye-1's unsurpassed panchromatic image resolution of .41 meters (about 16 inches) means we can see an object the size of home plate on a baseball field. Once a panchromatic image is collected by GeoEye-1, it must be resampled to .50-meter resolution according to our current operating license with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) before it can be released commercially. After a multispectral image is collected at 1.65-meter resolution by GeoEye-1, it may be sharpened using information from the panchromatic mode (pan-sharpened) so that the final image is full-color with .50-meter resolution. These are the clear, accurate images that online maps users most often associate with GeoEye...

Collecting Images with GeoEye-1 - GeoEye 101 Site

GeoEye-1 is equipped with the most advanced technology, capabilities and support ever used in a commercial remote sensing system, including sensor-agnostic capabilities that allow us to merge raw data from a range of sensors to create superior, precise imagery products...GeoEye's centralized command and control ground station facility in Dulles, Virginia sends tasking and operating commands to GeoEye-1 and receives encrypted data downlinks. GeoEye operates or leases three other stations in Barrow, Alaska; Tromso, Norway; and Troll, Antarctica. The four ground stations provide the primary data reception needed due to the large volume of imagery that is captured by the satellite. The Thornton, Colorado regional operational facility serves as a back-up ground station for GeoEye-1.

The History of Satellite Imagery - GeoEye 101 Site

Today, GeoEye operates a constellation of high-resolution Earth-imaging satellites that collects millions of square kilometers of map-accurate imagery every month...GeoEye-1 collects the highest resolution imagery available from any commercial satellite today – .41 meters or 16-inch ground resolution. From an orbit 423 miles in space, GeoEye-1 can discern an object on the ground the size of home plate on a baseball field and can map an object that size to within 16 feet of its true location on the surface of the Earth. However, the U.S. Government currently restricts public distribution of GeoEye-1 images to commercial markets to half-meter ground resolution. Launched in September 2008 from Vandenberg AFB, California, the 4300-pound GeoEye-1 satellite collects imagery that is unsurpassed in detail and accuracy. Anyone can see GeoEye-1 imagery in Google Earth or Google Maps.

Houston, We Have an Oil Spill - GeoEye High Resolution Imagery Featured in Article

When did the Gulf oil spill become visible from space? Oil continues to gush from a well underneath the Gulf of Mexico at a rate of more than 200,000 gallons per day. Some newspapers have noted that the spill is now visible from space, after NASA released satellite images of the oil slick, which reached 40 miles in width over the weekend. (It is now 130 miles across.). How big does something have to be before we can see it from space?...Interested in ordering a satellite image? Every spot on Earth passes within their field of vision within three days, and they can pivot the camera in a 60-degree field. A shot of your neighborhood will run you around $12 per square kilometer, with a minimum order of 100 square kilometers.
