In Flooded Minot, Some Prefer Camping to Shelters - GeoEye is Elevating Insight

When the Souris River swamped their home as it roared through Minot, the Schaan family could have taken refuge in a shelter. Instead, they headed to Walmart, plunked down $54 on a new tent and joined hundreds of others in a makeshift campground outside the city ice rink...


This satellite image provided by GeoEye shows flooding of the Souris River in Minot, N.D., as it crested over the weekend. Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman says demolition might be the only solution for nearly one-fifth of the homes in the city, as they'll be under slowly receding water for days.
